Welcome to the back yard! Life was
hard in the 1950's. Men were away at
sea for long periods of time while
their wives stayed at home and did
jobs like mending the nets to make
extra money and do all the normal
house hold chores. These would
involve washing clothes using a
dolly and tub in the back yard and
bathing children in a tin bath.
I bet you don't have a bath in a tin
tub!
The smell wasn't too nice
either! That's because toilets
were outside in the 1950's. An
ideal opportunity for me to
catch mice and rats!
This man is waiting for
his taxi to take him to
his trawler.
This is his wife, busy
mending a fishing net.
We'd better hurry up,
the skipper is waiting
for us!
