58a - Use language to imagine and recreate roles and experiences.

Ideas for resources
Tents or clothes drier/table plus drapes, torches, rucksack, sleeping bag, travel rug, stove or BBQ (real or pretend), folding stools, camping table, cooking equipment, crockery, cutlery, washing up bowl, bats and balls, water carrier, bobble hats and wellington boots, map.

Activity
Set the scene with a book or video. Discuss what is needed for a camping trip. Gather together everything that is needed with the children's help and transport outside. Negotiate a good spot to set up camp. Work through the events of a day.

Adults role
To lead the discussion and encourage the children to imagine, talk and give reasons. To support imaginary play by joining in if appropriate.

Fire station - climbing frame with a rope and helmet and hose.
Petrol station/garage with car wash and props.
Seizing the moment - (e.g. funny sound, smell, event aeroplane, snow).
Road Safety - police, traffic warden, lollipop person using props such as cones and mark making materials.
Outdoor market or car boot sale.
Bear hunt.
