thelighthouseforeducation.co.uk. Both addresses go to the same site. The Lighthouse for Education is the Education Web Site for North East Lincolnshire. The aims of this site are to provide information about the Internet, original education material, links to good educational sites and to celebrate success in Education. We will also use the site to give information about the Education Development Service (N. E. Lincs.). The site has been kept simple so that the pages appear on your computer faster. The Lighthouse for Education began in October 1999. From January 2000 until September there were over 20,000 visitors. In November 2000 there were 75,583 hits. By February 2001 it had over 51,000 hits in one week and over 10,000 in one day. The Lighthouse for Education continues to be more and more popular. In May 2002 it received over 1 million hits and in January 2003 1.7 million hits. During the month of October 2003 The Lighthouse receive over 2 million hits. In September 2004 the hits were over 3 million. At the end of 2005 The Lighthouse received over 1 million hits a week! There are 4 main pages on The Lighthouse
for Education. All other pages can be accessed from these: The Lighthouse for Education contained filtered search engines so you can search the Internet safely. The Lighthouse for Education provides good education material and links to good education web sites. It helps teachers, parents, pupils and children use the Internet. The Lighthouse for Education lists education web sites by subject and Key Stage. These are found on the Education Web Sites page.The subjects covered are: English / Literacy, Maths / Numeracy, Science, History, Geography, Languages, Design Technology, Art, Music, RE, PE, Sport and Health, PHSE, Politics, Citizenship and more. Each subject is then split into different areas. These areas are accessed from one page to avoid confusion. The Lighthouse for Education also contains good general sites, homework, revision, Encyclopaedias and Dictionaries, Search Engines, News and Newspapers, Useful sites for teachers and parents, teachers' subject associations. There are even listings for free clip art and fonts. Again these are all accessed from the Education Web Sites page. Available from the main menu on the left
of most pages for teachers is a subject index which lists original material
and relevant links to other parts of The Lighthouse. The Lighthouse for Education contains
original ideas in the form of development work in North East Lincolnshire
Schools. This can be found in 'Successful Practice
on the main menu on the left of each page. The Lighthouse for Education is designed to be a fast, simple to use web site. It is here to educate and improve education for all. It is based on education in England and Wales. The Lighthouse was conceived and created by Rupert Collins who at the end of 2004 handed over the reins to Nicky Worrell. In 2007 Mary Berry and Nina Wall took over the running of The Lighthouse with the help of Rupert Collins. |
